#10 Reference | The Daily Doodle

Today’s doodle is about reference.

I’ll be honest—I looked at space-inspired doodles while creating today's doodle. While scrolling through references, the inner critic began to whisper that I was cheating and not a true artist.

Yet, I laugh at the critic’s chatter because we are all shaped by the works, ideas, and experiences of others. When exploring a new activity, we all start with imitation. As a baby, you mimic the emotions of your parents. As an aspiring musician, you learn the chords to your favorite song.

By referencing and studying existing works, you find solace in the knowledge and will soon make space for unique expression.
